Suns Send Gortat to Wizards In 5-Player Deal

PHOENIX -- Marcin Gortat's tenure in Phoenix is over. The Suns shipped to seven-year veteran to Washington along with Shannon BrownMalcolm Lee, and Kendall Marshall in exchange for Emeka Okafor and a protected 2014 1st Round pick (up to 12).

Gortat averaged 11.1 ppg, 8.5 rpg, and 1.6 bpg last season. The Suns had been putting him on the market since they drafted Alex Len with the 5th pick in June. Gortat adds depth to a Wizards line-up that includes John WallBradley BealTrevor ArizaNenê, and Otto Porter Jr.

Gortat has been on the trade block since the Suns drafted Alex Len with 5th pick in June's draft.

Okafor will likely miss most of the season after discovering a herniated disc in his neck. Okafor averaged 9.7 ppg, 8.8 rpg, and 1.0 bpg. The addition of the 1st-round pick now gives the Suns four 1st-round picks in next year's draft, which includes many highly coveted prospects.

The Suns are also looking to sign G Eric Bledsoe to a long term contract. Other sources expect that the Suns are not stopping there, and will look to ship starting point guard Goran Dragić for more picks.
